King Lear runs from August 12 - September 11. This is a great opportunity for students and teachers to watch a live theatrical performance of Shakespeare's work.

There are several reasons Shakespeare is importaint in the classroom.

First, the works of Shakespeare are an intrical in cultures around the globe. Shakespearean phrases find their way into everyday conversation. They are injected into the dialogue of our favorite shows. His plots are copied an parodied on a regular basis. Second, Shakespeare added many words to the English language. He twisted the language of his time to mean new things. He used puns and word play to shape his characters and lighten his subject matter. Finally, reading Shakespeare can show us what truly great writing is about. The way he crafts his sentences, the layers of meaning he adds by chosing one word over another, the sheer size of his vocabulary. Modern authors pale in comparison.
